ASIA: Serial rapist cremated with favourite sex manuals

KUALA LUMPUR, April 13 DPA - A notorious Malaysian serial rapist was granted his dying
wish by prison officials and cremated with his two favourite sex manuals after he died
of AIDS on Tuesday, a news report said today.

The Malay Mail afternoon daily said the body of Lee Chow Meng, whom police believe
was behind 18 rape and molestation cases in the country from 1996 to 1997, was cremated
and his ashes scattered near a fishing village in Perak state.

Lee, 36, was jailed for 15 years two years ago after he pleaded guilty to manslaughter
for strangling a beautician who refused to give him money.

Police believe he was also guilty of at least 18 rapes and molestation cases in the
country from between 1996 and 1997.

The newspaper said Lee, who was HIV positive, was admitted to the Taiping hospital on March 30.

Before he died, he asked that two Chinese-language sex manuals, which he had taken
with him to prison, be placed in his coffin together with other personal possessions.

Lee preyed on his women victims, who included a florist, insurance agent and a tuition
teacher, by answering advertisements they had placed in newspapers.

Police offered a 50,000 ringgit (A26,275) reward and placed 40,000 posters of his picture
nationwide, before he was arrested when he tried to extort money from his last rape victim
after threatening to distribute nude pictures of her.
