NSW: Man sues Sydney nightclub owners after witnessing shooting
A man who claims he's been traumatised after witnessing a Sydney nightclub shooting
is suing its former owners, claiming security measures were too lax.
The New South Wales Supreme Court's been told that 39-year-old PHILIP ANTONY CROPPER
suffered psychological problems and attempted suicide after the shooting at Oxford Street's
DCM nightclub five years ago.
Counsel for Mr CROPPER, PETER WOODS says the court will hear from then-manager of DCM,
DAVID AULD, that those suspected of carrying weapons were allowed into the club without
being scanned.
Mr CROPPER, was drinking with acquaintance JAYNE PICKERING at DCM one morning in September, 1999.
Mr WOODS says Mr CROPPER heard a loud sound, felt something go past his left ear and
then observed a hole in Ms PICKERING's chest with smoke coming out of it.
He says the ordeal has had a profound effect on Mr CROPPER and he's not the person he used to be.
The then-owners of DCM, Blavy Holdings, are denying liability.
The case, before Justice JEFF SHAW, continues.
